Over 25 years ago, we set out to build something different — a place where dogs are genuinely known, genuinely cared for, and never just a number on a kennel door.
How We Started
We Couldn't Find What We Were Looking For. So We Built It.
Like most dog owners, we spent years searching for a place we could trust. Not a place that said the right things — a place that actually did them. Somewhere quiet, intentional, and small enough that our dogs would be known by name.
We never found it. So we built it ourselves. On 10.5 acres in Lexington, South Carolina, we created The Good Shepherd of SC — a private facility designed entirely around the comfort and wellbeing of the dogs in our care.
More than 25 years later, that original intention hasn't changed. We still limit our boarding to five private rooms. We still groom one dog at a time. We still train with patience and positive reinforcement. And we still believe that the best dog care is personal.

We learn your dog's name, their quirks, their favorite spots, and what makes them feel at ease. That's not a selling point — it's just how we work.

Our property in Lexington, SC was designed with one purpose: giving dogs the space, safety, and calm they need to thrive. Five private boarding rooms. Dedicated grooming space. Outdoor areas for exercise and exploration. Everything purpose-built — nothing retrofitted.
